Before he could barely read, Tolis would spend endless hours sketching strips of film on paper and cutting and pasting them using his father’s Super 8mm splicer. These early escapades laid the foundation for a lifetime affair with visual storytelling and the magic of film editing.
Cut to today he is still crafting stories and bringing his creative vision to diverse projects, albeit using more advanced tools. While having four features under his belt, including 2020’s underground cult hit “EX”, his strong storytelling skills, technical precision and two decades of professional experience have cemented his status as one of the most sought after editors in the Greek advertising industry, having cut hundreds of high profile commercials, for local and international brands and agencies, many of which have won prestigious awards such as Epica, Shots and Ermis.
Tolis has collaborated with leading Greek directors such as Vasilis Bourantas, Gregoris Rentis, Stathis Mourdoukoutas, Christos Kanakis, Argyris Papadimitropoulos, Giorgos Zafeiris, Babis Makridis, Panos Koronis, Yorgos Zois, Vasilis Katsoupis, The Callas, George Markakis, Cristo Petrou, Angelos Frantzis and Yorgos Lanthimos as well as renowned international directors like Phedon Papamichael, Duncan Winecoff, Ben Brand, Keane Pearce Shaw, Ian Schwartz, Andy Lambert, Cedric Dubourg, Alexis Gomez, Stuart McIntyre, Lobster, Augusto Fraga, Stefano & Alejandra, Daphne Samaras, Pierre Davy and Bjorn Ruhmann.
While quick and eager to adapt and adopt new technologies and platforms, Tolis remains an avid fan of Media Composer, as he continues to push the boundaries of what's possible in the editing room.
Tolis is a proud member of Blink GFE, Tempo Editors and the Hellenic Film Academy.
In his spare time Tolis obsesses over guitar pedals and vegan ramen recipes, attends more music festivals than he can afford and lately tries to spend as much time underwater as possible.
